URGENT ANGLIAN WATER NOTICE FOR HERRINGSWELL RESIDENTS - SEPTEMBER 2023

UPDATE 07.09.2023

Further to our email yesterday, we just wanted to share the update below on the issue, which we will shortly be sending out to impacted customers in the area. The update advises customers to continue to boil their water before use whilst we carry out further water quality checks. The damaged water main was repaired overnight, but we need to wait for the results of our water quality samples to give us the all clear before we can lift the boil notice. Some of our tests take 24 hours to get a confirmed result and we repeat tests to give us complete confidence in the decisions we are making. We know this will be frustrating and we really appreciate everyone bearing with us.

We’ve been contacting customers by email, text message, on social media, as well as posting cards with advice directly to impacted households. We’ve also called customers on our priority services register to ensure they get the support they need.

We will provide a further update when we have more information. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Important: Please keep boiling your tap wATERer before use

Your safety is our priority and we take every matter like this seriously. That’s why we’re asking customers in Red Lodge, Kentford, Tuddenham, Icklingham and surrounding areas to keep boiling your tap water before using it.

We were able to repair the damaged water main in your area overnight. While no-one had their water supply interrupted while we got things fixed, some customers may find they’ve now got lower water pressure than usual. This is due to air getting into the pipework during the repair - we’re working hard to release the air pockets and get your pressure back to normal as quickly as we can.

We’ll let you know when it’s OK to use your water normally again, until then please keep boiling your water while we continue to make all our checks to make sure your water’s at its usual high standard. This takes time and we know it's frustrating; we really appreciate you bearing with us.

What you need to do

To use your tap water safely, please keep boiling it and allow it to cool before drinking it, using it for preparing food, cooking, and cleaning your teeth.

You can still use it as normal, without boiling, for bathing, general purposes like using the washing machine and flushing the toilet.

We’ll keep you up to date

We’ll update this message if anything changes and for more information including answers to lots of common questions please visit our website here: www.anglianwater.co.uk/boil

Don’t pay your bill directly to Anglian Water?

If you’re a business or domestic customer who pays their bill to a water retailer rather than Anglian Water, you still need to boil your tap water before using it. If you need any help, please contact your retailer using the number on your most recent water bill.

06.09.2023

Following some damage to a water main in the area, as a precaution we are advising customers in Red Lodge, Kentford, Tuddenham, Icklingham and surrounding areas to boil their tap water and leave it to cool before using it for drinking, cooking, preparing food and brushing teeth. We advise customers to do so until further notice as we need to repair the damaged pipe and carry out further water quality tests.

Customers can still use it as normal, without boiling, for bathing, general household purposes like using the washing machine and flushing the toilet.

We’ll be getting in touch directly with every household affected, however you can also check which areas are affected on our postcode checker on the Anglian Water website here – http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/boil. On this page you can also find more information and answers to lots of common questions.

We will be providing support to customers on our Priority Service Register. Customers who need extra help can join the register by calling us on 03457 145 145.

We will put a card through the door of every household affected and use local Facebook groups to share information. But if you can help us spread the word, we’d really appreciate it.

It is likely to take a few days to carry out the repair and ensure that the water is back up to our usual high standard and we may need to turn the water off while we fix the broken main. We’ll keep you up to date when further information is available. We're really sorry and we’re working hard to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Kind regards,
